Cremation Options

When you choose cremation, a cemetery provides a final resting place and a place of remembrance for family and friends.

An urn may be placed in a columbarium, an above-ground structure made up of small compartments called niches, which can hold one or two urns. Niches are also available in our mausoleum. An urn may also be placed in a ground burial space in one of our beautiful memorial gardens.

Glass-Front Niches

Glass-front niches are located throughout the mausoleum complex. Three sizes of niches are available: individual niches for one urn, companion niches that accommodate two urns, and deluxe companion niches which allow for the placement of three smaller urns.

In addition to an urn, you can also place an engraved name plate and mementos inside the niches.

The climate-controlled setting of the mausoleum complex provides a comfortable place of remembrance year-round.

Stained Glass Niches

The Harmony Stained Glass niches are located in the West corridor of the Whiting Abbey.

These niches are designed to catch and beautifully reflect the natural light.

The wheat motif of the decorative stained glass panel is duplicated in windows throughout Whiting Abbey.

Courtyard Columbarium

The Mount Hope Tranquility Courtyard is home to several columbarium structures, three fountains and beautiful landscaping.

Each columbarium contains niches for individuals or companions. A niche is a small compartment in which one or more urns and other special remembrances may be placed.

Our staff can assist you in selecting an urn for placement in a niche.

Rose Garden Niches

Constructed in the fall of 2013, the Rose Garden Niches are composed of India Black granite.

Located in the heart of the cemetery, this unique setting provides views of nearly the entire cemetery. Numerous rosebushes and plantings create a soothing ambiance for remembrance and contemplation.

Our staff can help you select an urn that is appropriate for placement in these niches.

Glass Mosaic Niches

Located inside Whiting Abbey, these glass mosaic niches are true works of art. The Sunrise and Sunset themes are beautifully interpreted in glass mosaic pieces bordered with 24-carat gold leaf.

The mosaic fronts for each niche are handmade and set into polished bronze frames. Each niche has its own removable full-size bronze urn.

Capitol Granite Niches

Our new Capitol granite niches are a lovely spot for memorialization. Located in a sheltered area along the north face of the mausoleum, the Capitol niches offer a unique option for families who choose cremation.

One group of niches is decorated with an etching of the State Capitol building, and the other by the Great Seal of the State of Kansas, which displays elements from our state’s unique history.

Cremation niches are also available outdoors in the Good Shepherd Columbarium, located in the Sunrise memorial garden on the east side of the cemetery.

Ground Burial

Ground burial is also an option for those who have chosen cremation. Three memorial gardens are set aside for this purpose, including the Sunrise Garden, Twin Oaks Urn Garden, and the Urn Garden of Prayer, pictured.

Ground burial is not limited to these special sections, but is also available in any other memorial garden throughout the cemetery.
